ACEF goes to Kenya 2011

We are fresh back from a very productive trip to the Brainhouse Academy in Nairobi with Volunteers for our Charity ACEF.

We achieved such a lot in a very short space of time; we installed 2 solar panels Donated by Mitsubishi which was a huge task. Built a platform for the 10,000 litre water tank whose pump is powered by the Solar Panels, we also redone the vegetable garden this time with tyres so they should last. We also painted class rooms, did tons of art and craft with the students, we also carried 90 pairs of shoes and 20,000 Sanitary towels for the students, we also managed to squeeze in a 2 night safari in the Masaii Mara, which was Fantastic!!

Akamba on be half of ACEF (Akamba Children's Education Fund) would like to say a huge Thank You to:

Sally, Stuart, Andy, Angela, Gill, Sunita, Kerry, Sister Helen, Stephen, Amie and Emily; these people have made a huge difference to the lives of all the Brainhouse Academy.

ASANTE SANA (Thank You)

Akamba in Winter

kenya-jan-07-113smPeople are often amazed by Akamba during the winter. Because the plants are outdoors all of the year, frosty and snow laden days are always very busy.

Akamba Shamba Garden

kel-new-pics-169smThe Shamba garden was built at the BBC Gardeners World Show at the N.E.C in Birmingham, to show the type of plants and food crops which the average rural Kenyan person grows in their garden, Shamba in Swahili.

Akamba Down Under

akamba-down-under-smallThis garden built in conjunction with Birmingham City Council depicts the flora, both natural and introduced of Kangaroo island off the coast of Australia. The garden is packed full of Palms, Proteas, Anigozanthus and tough seaside Grasses. The garden begins in tropical rainforest leading down to a fine white sandy beach. The RHS awarded us with a Silver Gilt medal.

Watoto Park - Coming Soon

At Akamba, you'll find four acres packed with fun for children of all ages. This includes our African aviary, nature trail, play area, pet zoo, cafe and the fabulous tropical house, filled with a wealth of animals, butterflies and birds.

This project is currently in development so watch this space!
